The Akiles CoilMac-ECI is a heavy-duty, full-size coil binding machine that pairs a manual punch with an electric coil inserter and built-in crimper, so an operator punches the sheets and the machine drives the spiral coil through and crimps the ends. It runs both 4:1 and 5:1 pitch round-hole patterns, takes a 13-inch binding edge, and punches up to 20 sheets per lift with 5 disengageable pins for clean edges on odd sheet sizes. This is the workhorse coil binder for a print shop or in-plant bindery producing reports, manuals, and proposals in spiral coil. - Punch drive - manual vs electric: the CoilMac-ECI uses a manual punch with an electric inserter. Higher-volume shops step up to a fully electric punch (CoilMac-EX/ECP family).
- Binding edge width: the CoilMac-ECI binds a 13-inch edge, which covers letter and legal in portrait. Confirm your longest bind edge before sizing.
- Pitch - 4:1 vs 5:1: the ECI runs both. 4:1 (larger holes) is the common spiral-coil pattern; 5:1 gives finer hole spacing. Match the pitch to the coil stock you buy.
- Inserting and crimping: the ECI inserts and crimps in one machine. If you already own a punch, a standalone inserter/crimper (Akiles Finish@Coil-E1, MSL EQ-259) may be the better add.
