Tabletop and letter folders fold letters, statements, brochures, and mailers on a compact footprint. Mid-State Litho stocks friction-feed and air-feed tabletop units from Martin Yale, MBM, Baum, Formax, and Standard Horizon for offices, mailrooms, churches, schools, and short-run print shops. These machines sit under the broader paper folding machines catalog when you need something smaller than a floor-model production folder.

Letter folding machines in this group typically handle letter and legal sheets, with many models accepting 11×17. Look at automatic plate setup when the same fold jobs repeat daily. Look at air-suction when you run coated or digital stock that slips on friction wheels. If the folded piece goes into an envelope, the rest of the process lives on the mailing equipment hub.

Do you need a folder or a folder-inserter?

A letter folder folds the sheet and stops. Someone still puts the fold into the envelope by hand. That is the right machine when the mail goes out in batches small enough for one person to stuff, or when the folded piece is a self-mailer and never enters an envelope at all.

A folder-inserter folds the sheet, collects the insert, opens the envelope, fills it, and seals it in one pass. It costs several times what a tabletop folder costs, and it earns that back only when someone is currently stuffing envelopes for hours a week.

The dividing question is labor, not volume. Count the hours per week spent stuffing. If the answer is under about two, a folder from this page is the machine. Above that, look at folder-inserters.

Martin Yale desktop and mailroom folders

Seven models. P6500 and P7500 are the entry desktop machines for occasional letter and invoice work. 1217A, 1501X, 1611, and 1711 step up through faster feed and more fold settings. 1812 is the top of the Martin Yale line here and handles daily mailroom volume.

MBM tabletop folders

Four models. 208J is the smallest. 408A and 508A add speed and stacking. 1800S is the fastest MBM machine on this page.

Horizon desktop folders

Four models. PF-P3110, PF-P3210, and PF-P3300 are the desktop friction-feed line. PF-40L is the largest Horizon unit here and is the machine to look at when the work outgrows a desktop folder but does not yet justify a floor model.

Baumfolder tabletop folders

Three models. 714XA, 714XLT, and 714H-8 PG. These are the heaviest machines on this page and they cross into production duty.

How to choose a tabletop letter folder

Daily volume. A few hundred sheets suits entry models such as the Martin Yale 1217A or MBM 208J. A few thousand sheets a day pushes you toward programmable units such as the Martin Yale 1501X, MBM 408A/508A, or Baum 714-series tabletop folders.

Stock. Friction feed for clean uncoated office paper. Air feed when coated or short sheets jam a friction deck. Heavy digital covers can crack along the fold no matter which feed you pick, and the fix there is a score before the fold, which is what the creaser-folders do.

Fold patterns. Letter, accordion, half, and double-parallel cover most mailroom work. Confirm gate folds and thick covers before you buy.

Brand deep-dive: Martin Yale desktop paper folders. For floor-model production, see commercial and automatic folders.

Tabletop letter folder FAQ

What is a letter folding machine?

A letter folding machine is a compact paper folder set up for letter-size and mailroom folds (letter fold, accordion, half fold). Most sit on a table and run a few hundred to a few thousand sheets per day.

Can tabletop folders run 11×17?

Many can. Confirm the model max sheet size. Tabloid capacity is common on commercial tabletop units; some entry office folders stop at letter or legal.

Manual setup or automatic?

Manual plate stops cost less and suit occasional jobs. Automatic or programmable setup pays off when the same fold jobs run every day and operators change often.

Do I need a letter folder or a folder-inserter?

A folder folds the sheet and someone stuffs the envelope. A folder-inserter folds, inserts, and seals in one pass. Count the hours per week your people currently spend stuffing envelopes. Under about two hours, a folder from this page is the right machine. Above that, look at folder-inserters.

What does a letter folding machine cost?

Desktop machines for occasional letter and invoice work start under 500 dollars. Mailroom machines that run every day sit in the low thousands. Tabletop production folders that feed heavier stock and run all shift reach the mid five figures. Current pricing on all 19 models is on the product pages, and used and refurbished equipment is worth a look if the budget is fixed.

Can I lease or finance a letter folding machine?

Yes. MSL arranges leasing and financing on equipment purchases, which is usually how a shop moves a folder from a capital request to a monthly number. See the financing and leasing page or call 1-800-343-4231.

Which folds can these machines run?

All of the models on this page run the standard letter fold and half fold. Most run Z fold, double parallel, and gate. Fold selection is set by plate stops on the manual machines and by a keypad or touchscreen on the programmable ones, which is the practical difference between the two setups.
