How to choose an electric coil binding machine

• Inserter type. The ECI+ has a full-size electric inserter with crimper for the fastest finishing; lighter machines use a small inserter (CoilMac-ER) or no powered insert.
• Pitch and hole shape. 4:1 or 5:1 pitch and oval holes on the ECI+; oval holes seat coil faster than round on high-volume runs.
• Disengageable pins. All 54 disengage on the ECI+, which is what lets you bind odd and half-size documents cleanly. Entry coil machines disengage far fewer. The standard CoilMac-ECI (EQ-258) has fewer disengageable pins than this plus model.
• Punch capacity and width. 20 sheets at 13 inches covers most reports; if you bind taller stacks all day, look at the CoilMac-ECP class. The CoilMac-ER (EQ-264) is the lower-tier coil sibling.
