Details & specifications

The Akiles CoilMac-EPI+ is an electric coil-binding machine that combines an electric punch with an integrated electric coil inserter, so an operator punches and spins plastic spiral coil into books, reports, and manuals from one unit. It is built for in-plant print shops, copy and print centers, and binderies running steady coil-bound work, and it sits at the top of the Akiles CoilMac coil-binding line. The EPI+ is an electric coil binding machine and a coil binder with inserter, a spiral coil binding machine that punches and inserts in one pass. Mid-State Litho is an authorized Akiles dealer that also stocks coil supplies, selling and servicing finishing equipment from Michigan since 1984. Made in South Korea, the EPI+ is a machine we quote, ship, and supply with the coil and consumables that keep it running.

The Akiles CoilMac coil-binding line

The EPI+ sits at the top of the Akiles CoilMac coil family that Mid-State Litho carries. Modular and entry models include the CoilMac-M ($409), CoilMac-M+ ($855), CoilMac-ER ($932), and CoilMac-ER+ ($613). Punch-plus-inserter models include the CoilMac-ECI ($899) and CoilMac-ECI+ ($949). Heavier-duty electric-punch models include the CoilMac-ECP ($1,453), CoilMac-ECP+ ($1,488), CoilMac-EX41 ($1,453), CoilMac-EX41+ ($1,488), and CoilMac-EX Pro ($1,649). At the top, the electric-punch-plus-integrated-inserter models are the standard CoilMac-EPI ($2,149) and the CoilMac-EPI+ ($2,199, this page). Akiles also makes comb and wire binders that we carry for shops that bind in more than one style.

How to choose a coil binding machine

  1. Punch type - a manual or modular punch (CoilMac-M) for low volume, or an electric punch (ER, ECP, EX, EPI) for steady production.
  2. Inserter - hand inserting versus an integrated electric inserter; the EPI line punches and inserts on one unit.
  3. Document thickness and coil range - match the punch capacity and coil diameter range to your typical book thickness.
  4. Budget - the CoilMac ladder runs from about $409 (CoilMac-M) to $2,199 (EPI+); the EPI+ is for shops that want punch-and-insert in one machine.
