How to choose a Heat Seal shrink tunnel

Four things decide which tunnel belongs on your line. Work through them in order and the model usually picks itself.

  • Throughput. The T3422 runs dual heat zones and a conveyor up to 70 feet per minute with the live/dead roller option, which puts it in mid to high volume work. If the tunnel only runs part of the shift, the standard-duty Heat Seal T3417 standard-duty tunnel or the T2622 covers it for less money.
  • Product size. The T3422 chamber is 34 inches long by 22 inches wide by 10 inches high. Measure your largest wrapped bundle with film clearance. Smaller items do not need this chamber, and the T2615 or T2622 handle them in a smaller footprint.
  • Power. The T3422 needs 208 to 240V single phase at 50 to 60 amps, drawing 8kW with the 10 inch opening or 10kW with the 14 inch opening. Confirm the circuit at the install location before you order. This is the item that most often delays a tunnel going into production.
  • Format and options. Stainless steel construction, reverse air flow, and mesh or roller conveyors are available. If you are banding bundles rather than fully wrapping them, the Heat Seal SB3422 shrink banding tunnel is the right machine instead.

A tunnel is one half of the line. It pairs with a sealer, so see our shrink wrap sealers and the wider shrink wrapping equipment range. To compare across the tunnel line, start at shrink tunnels or the full Heat Seal packaging equipment catalog.

Send us your product dimensions, film, and hourly count and we will quote the tunnel with freight to your dock.

Why buy from Mid-State Litho

Mid-State Litho has been an authorized Heat Seal dealer since 1984. A 560 pound tunnel is a freight shipment and a wired install, so the dealer matters as much as the machine.

  • In-house service. Our own factory-trained technicians cover Michigan and the Great Lakes for install, operator training, and repair. Heater and conveyor wear items are the parts that keep a tunnel down, and we stock for that. See equipment service and support.
  • Freight handled. We coordinate the freight and the delivery appointment on the 560 pound crate rather than leaving you to work it out with the carrier.
  • Financing. Equipment financing and leasing turns the tunnel into a monthly number, which usually clears approval faster than a capital request.
  • One dealer for the packaging line. We sell the sealer, the tunnel, and the film from the same packaging equipment catalog, so one service call covers the line.
