Where the 104 Squarefold fits

Plockmatic builds the 104 Squarefold and sells it under the Morgana name, so both names turn up on the spec sheet and in search. It is a spine module rather than a bookletmaker: it takes a saddle stitched booklet and squares the fold. The machines that make the booklet live in booklet makers and saddle stitchers, and the rest of the line sits under Plockmatic print finishing equipment.

Inline, the 104 runs behind the BM 60 and BM 61. Shops with more volume step up to the BM4000 series or the BM5000. If you want the spine squared and the face trimmed in one pass, look at the Squarefold Trimmer SFT, which squares and face trims.

Common questions about the Morgana 104 Squarefold

What does a squarefold actually do to the booklet?

It flattens the folded spine of a saddle stitched booklet into a square edge, so the finished book sits flat, stacks without splaying, and reads as perfect bound while keeping the staples. You can print on the spine once it is squared.

Does it have to be connected to a bookletmaker?

No. The 104 runs hand fed as a standalone unit, or inline with the BM 60 and BM 61. Hand fed is how most shops start, then they move it inline when volume justifies it.

How many sheets will it handle?

Up to 22 sheets of 80 gsm, about 21 lb bond, which is an 88 page booklet. Booklets run from 100 x 120 mm up to 240 x 325 mm, so a US letter sheet folded to 5.5 x 8.5 in fits comfortably.

Do I need the base?

For standalone use, yes in practice. The base sets the machine at working height and ships with the install kit. It is quoted separately. Ask for it with the machine and we will price both together.
