4 Reasons to Start Paper Banding in the Print Industry

Paper banding unitizes photos, manuals, and brochures without crushing the edges. A wide paper or film band holds the stack — then you can print a barcode or logo on the band itself.
You spent the job on a clean crease and a square fold. Hand-wrapping or cheap strapping can still ruin the stack — crushed corners, scuffed covers, a reprint. Paper banding machines hold the product with a wide, low-tension band instead of a narrow strap.

A little material, a gentle hold, and a place to put a SKU or a logo. That is banding. Four reasons shops add it:
1. It is damage-free
The product should leave the bindery the way it came off the press. Narrow plastic strapping bites into the edges of a photo stack or a coated brochure. A paper or film band has a wider face, wraps the corners instead of cutting them, and still unitizes the pack. High-end prints stay high-end.
2. Banding is highly versatile
Felins banders run from a stand-alone tabletop to a fully automatic in-line system. Tension is the setting that matters on printed work — tight enough to hold, light enough that the cover does not dish. Ultrasonic and heat-seal heads both show up in the lineup; pick the one that matches the band material and the volume.
3. Paper, plastic, or pre-printed bands
The machine is half the decision. The band stock is the other half. Three materials cover most print and mail work:
Paper
Low-tension packs. Tears off by hand — no knife on the receiving dock. White or kraft brown.
Plastic / film
More hold than paper. Colors or fully clear so the printed face stays visible through the band.
Pre-printed
Logo, color, or campaign art on the band. The pack becomes a brand surface, not just a strap.
4. Variable data on the band
When the same bander runs work for a dozen clients, the band is a good place for the pick ticket. An inline thermal-transfer printer puts a unique barcode, quantity, job number, or ship-to on each band as it seals. No second labeler, no handwritten slip falling out of the stack.
