Felins is the industrial-grade banding brand we sell and service for high-volume print shops, mailrooms, and packaging operations. Mid-State Litho stocks Felins ultrasonic banders (cold-seal, no warm-up time, suited for coated paper stocks and heat-sensitive products) and Felins heat-seal banders (lower entry cost, well-matched to moderate-volume bundling).

The ultrasonic line spans tabletop semi-automatic banders for short-run print bundling up through fully automatic inline systems integrated with conveyors and stackers for high-volume direct-mail and book production. Heat-seal banders ship in similar tabletop-to-inline configurations with simpler controls.

Felins consumables include paper banding film (custom-printed available), biodegradable kraft, and standard polyolefin. We carry replacement seal heads, drive belts, and ultrasonic horns for in-stock service. Factory-trained technicians install Felins banders on-site across Michigan and the Great Lakes service area, and we replace ultrasonic horns and seal heads under our standard parts policy: we replace blades and seal heads, we do not sharpen or refurbish them.

The SP-100 is the entry-level manual SP-Bander, suited to tabletop bundling of magazines, flyers, direct mail, and kitting workflows where an operator loads each bundle. The SP-200 is the semi-automatic model with motorized feed and operator-cycle banding, suited to mid-volume print shops moving from hand-bundling to inline production. The SP-400 is the fully automatic SP-Bander with conveyor integration, best matched to high-volume mailing operations and inline book finishing where the bander is fed directly from a folder, stitcher, or perfect binder.

All three SP-Banders accept Graphic Whizard banding film in standard, biodegradable, and custom-printed formats. Four decisions drive the right banding-machine spec for your operation:

Volume

Bands per hour. A tabletop manual bander handles 200-400 bands/hr, appropriate for short-run print shops and on-demand kitting. A semi-automatic SP-Bander runs 600-1,200 bands/hr. A fully automatic Felins or Whizard SP-400 in conveyor configuration runs 1,500-3,000+ bands/hr inline.

Pack Format

Bundle dimensions and shape. Banding machines have a fixed pack-window range (minimum and maximum height, width, length). Tabletop banders accommodate small bundles for direct mail and magazines. Floor-model banders accept larger pack formats including shipping cartons and palletized stacks. Match pack-format range to your largest and smallest expected bundle.

Film Type

Ultrasonic banders run paper banding film (recyclable, biodegradable kraft, custom-printed available). Heat-seal banders run polyolefin, polypropylene, or paper-laminate. Custom-printed film carries logos, instructions, or product information directly on the band, useful for branded kitting and shelf-ready packaging.

Power

Ultrasonic seals are cold (no warm-up time, no heat-affected zone, suited to coated stocks and heat-sensitive products). Heat-seal banders use a heated seal element (warm-up cycle required, lower entry cost, simpler controls). Pick ultrasonic for high-throughput print finishing and heat-sensitive products. Pick heat-seal for moderate-volume bundling where entry cost matters more than cycle time.

1. Should I choose ultrasonic or heat-seal banding for my print shop?

Ultrasonic banders are the right choice for high-throughput print finishing, coated paper stocks, and heat-sensitive products. They have no warm-up cycle and produce no heat-affected zone on the banded material. Heat-seal banders cost less up front and are well-matched to moderate-volume bundling where entry cost matters more than cycle time. Most Michigan print shops we install for end up on ultrasonic.

2. What is the difference between paper banding and shrink wrapping?

Paper banding uses a recyclable paper or kraft film band sealed around the bundle. Shrink wrapping uses a heated plastic film that conforms to the bundle's shape. Paper banding is faster on a per-bundle basis, uses less film material, produces less plastic waste, and supports custom-printed bands. Shrink wrap covers the full bundle and is preferred for moisture or dust protection.

3. Can a banding machine integrate with my existing paper folder, bookletmaker, or perfect binder?
