Mid-State Litho is an authorized Akiles dealer for pouch laminators, serving Michigan and the Great Lakes region since 1984. A pouch laminator seals your document inside a pre-sized laminating pouch, producing a rigid, fully enclosed finish that protects ID cards, badges, luggage tags, menus, signs, and photos. Unlike a roll laminator, which feeds film from continuous rolls for high-volume work, a pouch laminating machine needs no film threading or long setup: pick the pouch, insert the piece, and run it through.
We list three Akiles pouch laminators online, from photo-grade to wide-format production. The ProLam Photo is a 13 inch photo-grade laminator for color-critical prints. The ProLam Ultra-XL stretches to 18.9 inches for wide-format pouch laminator work. The ProLam Ultra-X10 runs 320 F high-temperature operation with 14 mil capacity at 13 inches. Other Akiles pouch models, including the ProLam Plus, iLam Plus and ProLam Ultra, are available by quote.
Choosing a commercial pouch laminator comes down to four questions: how wide are your pouches, how thick is your film, what materials are you laminating, and how many pieces a day will you run? The guide below walks each axis. If you want a second opinion, our finishing team sizes laminating pouches machines against real production work every week. How to Choose a Pouch Laminator
Four specs separate the three models we list:
- Pouch width. 13 inches (ProLam Photo, ProLam Ultra-X10) covers letter, legal, and menu formats; 18.9 inches (ProLam Ultra-XL) covers wide-format pouches.
- Film thickness. The ProLam Photo runs pouches up to 10 mil. Step up to the ProLam Ultra-XL or Ultra-X10 for 14 mil capacity on rigid signage and heavy laminates.
- Temperature and material. The high-temperature 320 F models (ProLam Photo, Ultra-X10) handle thick and specialty pouches, and the ProLam Photo adds a photo-grade path for color-critical output.
- Volume and build. The ProLam Photo suits studio and office work, and the Ultra-XL and Ultra-X10 carry production workloads.
If your work leans toward continuous rolls rather than pouches, compare our single sided laminators, double sided laminators, and wide format laminators.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pouch laminator and how is it different from a roll laminator?
A pouch laminator seals a document inside a pre-sized, pre-sealed pouch, one piece at a time. A roll laminator applies film from continuous rolls and suits high-volume or oversized work. Pouches win on simplicity and edge sealing; rolls win on throughput.
What pouch sizes can these machines handle?
13 inch pouches on the ProLam Photo and ProLam Ultra-X10, and up to 18.9 inch wide-format pouches on the ProLam Ultra-XL.
What film thickness do Akiles pouch laminators support?
Up to 10 mil on the ProLam Photo, and up to 14 mil on the ProLam Ultra-XL and Ultra-X10.
Which Akiles pouch laminator is best for ID cards, photos, or signage?
For ID cards and badges, ask us about the ProLam Plus 160 (available by quote). The ProLam Photo suits photographs and color-critical prints, and the ProLam Ultra-XL or Ultra-X10 handles signage and heavy 14 mil work.
Does Mid-State Litho service these machines and supply laminating film?
