How to choose between a chamber sealer, an L-sealer and a combo system

MSL lists three shapes of Heat Seal shrink equipment, and the right one is decided by product size and daily volume rather than by price.

A chamber machine seals and shrinks in one enclosed step. It suits small, uniform items and low volume, and it has the smallest footprint. MSL lists the Heat Seal HSE 30 chamber machine at $4,340 and the Heat Seal HSE 50 chamber machine at $5,100.

An L-sealer seals only. Product moves to a separate tunnel to shrink. It handles a wider range of sizes than a chamber and it is the right start if a tunnel is already on the floor. MSL lists the Heat Seal HS1620 L-sealer at $4,935 and the Heat Seal HDX1721 heavy duty L-sealer at $11,200.

A combo puts the L-sealer and the tunnel on one frame with a pre-wired conveyor between them. One operator runs the whole cycle. The HSE100 on this page is the entry combo at $8,980, with a 16 x 20 in seal area and a 20 x 14 x 6.5 in tunnel. Power is the practical constraint on the HSE100. It runs on a standard 115V single phase 20 amp circuit with a 2,000 watt tunnel, so it does not need a dedicated 220V drop. Every machine above it in the range does.

Does the HSE100 need a special electrical circuit?

No. It runs on a standard 115V single phase 20 amp circuit, and the tunnel draws 2,000 watts. Larger Heat Seal combos need a 220V drop.

Is the leg kit required?

No. The HSE100 is a tabletop machine at 32 in high. The optional leg kit raises it to 55 in overall and puts the working height at 36 in, which matches most bindery benches.

What film size does it run?

Film capacity is 20 in wide. The seal area is 16 in by 20 in, and the tunnel opening is 20 in long by 14 in wide by 6.5 in high. The tunnel opening is the tighter constraint, so measure product height against the 6.5 in clearance rather than against the seal bar.

Can I add a conveyor later?

Yes. The seal head ships pre-wired for a seal conveyor, and the silicone sealing conveyor, leg kit and heated hole punch are the three factory options.
