Details & specifications

The 714XLT 2nd station is an add-on unit. It mounts to a BAUM 714XLT air feed folder and adds a second fold station, so right angle and parallel folds run in one pass instead of two. If you do not already run a 714XLT, start with the 714XLT Ultrafold 1st station folder at $12,490 and add this unit later. This unit is also listed by Baumfolder as 714H-8 PG.

The BAUM 714XLT Ultrafold Tabletop Folder 2nd Station adds a second folding stage to the BAUM 714XLT Air Feed Folder, so right-angle and parallel folds run in a single pass. It is built for high-speed print finishing floors that need more fold combinations than one station can produce, and the added station raises throughput on work that would otherwise take two passes. Scoring, perforating, and slitting setups for the 714 platform are covered in the guides linked below.

Applications

Commercial printers and in-plants fold brochures, mailers, and folded inserts on it. Manufacturing and warehousing operations run instruction sheets, packing slips, and product manuals. Offices fold reports, financial statements, and marketing collateral, and schools and churches produce newsletters, bulletins, and multi-page booklets.

When a second fold station pays for itself

The 2nd station removes a pass. That is the whole economic case, and it is easy to size. Compare folders on our paper folders page.

Take a job that needs a right angle fold after a parallel fold. On a single station 714XLT that is two passes: run the parallel fold, re-stack, re-set, run the right angle. On a 714XLT with the 2nd station it is one pass. You save the second setup and the second run, and you remove the re-stacking step where most misfeeds and squareness problems start.

Count how many two-pass jobs run through the folder in a month, multiply by the setup and run time you would save, and compare that to the operator hours you are paying now. Shops running booklet signatures, self mailers and newsletters on a regular schedule usually find the two-pass work is most of the folder's calendar.

If the folder is already the bottleneck, this is the cheaper fix. A second 714XLT costs $12,490 and needs a second operator. This unit costs $16,499, needs no extra operator, and does not take a second bench. For higher volume, look at the 714XA Autofold or the pile-feed line: the Baum 20 PFF, the Baum 20 Page 2nd Station, the Baum 20 INF and the Baum 20 CFF.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 714XLT 2nd station do?

It adds a second fold unit to a BAUM 714XLT air feed folder, so right angle and parallel folds run in one pass instead of two.

Can it run on its own?

No. It attaches to a 714XLT air feed folder. If you do not already run one, start with the 714XLT Ultrafold 1st station folder.

What folds can it produce?

Right angle folds at 90 degrees for newsletters, self mailers and booklet signatures, and multiple parallel folds for compact documents from larger sheets.

Is it a tabletop machine?

Yes. The 714XLT Ultrafold line is tabletop, so it sits on a bindery bench instead of taking floor space.

How does it ship, and who services it?

LTL freight, quoted at checkout. Mid-State Litho installs and services Baumfolder equipment with factory-trained technicians across Michigan and the Great Lakes.
