Mid-State Litho has supplied industrial guillotine paper cutters to commercial printers, in-plant shops, packaging converters, and book manufacturers across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and the Great Lakes region since 1984. A guillotine cutter is the backbone of any finishing department - every folded, bound, or trimmed job starts with a clean, square cut - so the right machine is matched to your stock weight, daily volume, and maximum sheet width. We sell, install, train, finance, and service every cutter we list, with factory-trained technicians and an in-house parts inventory.
Choosing a Guillotine Paper Cutter
Three things decide which cutter fits: drive type, cut width, and volume.
Drive type. Manual and tabletop electric cutters suit offices and light in-plant work up to about 18". Electric-drive floor cutters handle daily mid-range production up to roughly 23". Hydraulic cutters deliver the heavy clamping pressure needed for thick lifts and hard stocks in production environments. Flywheel high-speed cutters are the top production tier - the fastest, most durable machines for high-volume commercial and packaging shops.
Cut width. A useful rule of thumb: you want to be able to spin your largest sheet under the blade. If your max sheet is 12" x 18" (a 21.6" diagonal), choose a cut width above 22". Sizing up reduces operator handling and keeps you inside the machine's load rating.
Volume. Match clamp and blade-drive type to how hard you'll run the cutter. Occasional use favors electric; daily production favors hydraulic; continuous high-volume favors flywheel.

Flywheel High-Speed Cutters (Perfecta)
For high-volume commercial and packaging production, MSL carries the Perfecta BP flywheel line - gear-driven, servo-backgauge guillotines built for speed and longevity: the BP 92 (36"), BP 115 (45"), BP 132 (52"), BP168 (66"), and BP225 (88.5") for large-format work. The Daeho iCutter series offers mechanical-drive flywheel cutters from 30" to 62" with touchscreen control.
Hydraulic Cutters (Challenge, MBM Triumph, Formax)
Hydraulic cutters bring high clamp pressure for hard stocks and thick lifts. The USA-built Challenge line spans the Champ 150 (15") and Champ 185 (18.5") small-format hydraulics up through the production-class Titan 200, Titan 230 / 230 Pro, Titan 265 TC, and the large-format Champion 305 TC (30.5") and Champion 370 TC (37"). MBM Triumph programmable hydraulics include the 5560 / 5560 LT (21.6"), Speedcut 56 (22"), 6655 / 6660 (25.5"), and 7260 (28"). Formax Cut-True adds the 29H and large-format 31H hydraulic guillotines.
Electric and Tabletop Cutters (MBM Triumph, Formax, Standard Horizon)
For offices, in-plants, and light commercial work, the MBM Triumph tabletop and floor line runs from the manual 4305 and semi-automatic 4315 / 4815 to fully programmable 4350 / 4850 / 4855 / 5255 / 5260 models. The Formax Cut-True 28A and 29A are programmable electric guillotines, and Standard Horizon offers the compact APC-450 and APC-610 programmable cutters plus the PC-P430 and PC-640 tabletops.

Guillotine Paper Cutter FAQ
What is the difference between a hydraulic and a flywheel guillotine cutter?
Hydraulic cutters use hydraulic pressure for the clamp and blade, giving high, consistent clamping force for thick lifts and hard stocks, ideal for daily production. Flywheel (gear-driven) high-speed cutters like the Perfecta BP line are the top production tier, built for the highest volumes and longest duty cycles in commercial and packaging shops.
What size paper cutter do I need?
Choose a cut width larger than the diagonal of your biggest sheet so it spins freely under the blade. For 12" x 18" stock (21.6" diagonal), pick a width above 22". Sizing up lowers operator handling and keeps you within the load rating.
Does Mid-State Litho service paper cutters in Michigan and the Great Lakes?
Yes. Factory-trained technicians install, commission, and maintain every cutter line we sell across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin, with same-day local and next-day regional service, plus in-house knives, sticks, and parts.
Do you offer financing on paper cutters?
Yes, through Mitsubishi HC Capital America (terms up to 84 months) and LEAF Commercial Capital. We also accept trade-ins on legacy cutting equipment.
