What is the difference between electric and hydraulic paper cutters?

Electric paper cutters use an electric motor to drive the blade and are ideal for small to mid-volume environments — typically cutting stacks up to 2 inches thick. Hydraulic paper cutters use hydraulic pressure to drive the blade and clamp, delivering significantly more cutting force for thicker stacks and harder materials. For high-volume commercial print shops processing 500+ cuts per day, hydraulic cutters are the standard choice.

How do I choose the right paper cutter size for my print shop?

Focus on power-train and width. Cutters under 23 inches are usually electric. Match the cutter's maximum cut width to your largest sheet size plus 1-2 inches of margin. For standard 12x18 inch work, a 19-inch cutter is sufficient. For 25x38 parent sheets, you need a 30-inch or larger machine. Also consider your daily volume — if you're making more than 200 cuts per day, invest in a programmable model with backgauge memory to save operator time and reduce errors.
